Despite intense political pressure, the 25th edition of EXIT Festival went ahead in Novi Sad. Held at Petrovaradin Fortress, it welcomed over 200,000 visitors from around the world. Many feared it might be the final edition in Serbia, but the event became a powerful symbol of resilience and unity.

A Legacy That Started with Protest

EXIT began in 2000 as a student movement against Slobodan Milošević’s regime. Over 25 years, it grew into one of the world’s top music festivals and a cultural icon of the Balkans. The festival has generated more than €300 million in tourism revenue and gained global recognition.

However, this year’s edition faced unprecedented political challenges. Organizers openly supported student-led protests following a tragedy at Novi Sad Railway Station that claimed 16 lives. That support placed EXIT in direct opposition to the Serbian government.

A Moment of Silence That Shook the Crowd

On the opening night, the music stopped. Over 40,000 attendees stood in silence for 16 minutes to honor the victims of the railway station collapse. Then, students took the Main Stage to send a powerful message:
“They can’t take our freedom! Pour your love, truth, and light into the world – because the world will hear you!”

Bob Geldof Honors Live Aid and EXIT’s Spirit

Later that evening, Bob Geldof and The Boomtown Rats performed in tribute to Live Aid’s 40th anniversary. Before taking the stage, Geldof said:
“We are proud to play EXIT, one of the last truly independent festivals. Our music has always carried the message of freedom. We stand with the future. We stand with Serbia.”

World-Class Performances Across All Stages

The festival featured legendary performances from The Prodigy, Eric Prydz, Hot Since 82, and Solomun. The energy of the Dance Arena peaked with acts like Nina Kraviz, Amelie Lens, and Tiësto, who made his EXIT debut. The final night delivered a special back-to-back set from Indira Paganotto and Sara Landry.

On the Main Stage, Sex Pistols, now fronted by Frank Carter, created one of the biggest mosh pits in EXIT history—a wild explosion of rebellion and raw energy.

More Than Music: A Stand for Free Expression

Festival founder Dušan Kovačević summed up the event:
“This year, we didn’t just defend EXIT’s freedom. We defended the right of the global cultural scene to speak freely. Together with fans, students, and performers, we stood strong against oppression. We proved that love still triumphs over fear.”

EXIT Proves Festivals Can Still Make History

EXIT 2025 showed that music is more than entertainment. It can challenge injustice, unite generations, and inspire hope. In the face of adversity, EXIT once again became a beacon of freedom and change.
