Before rave culture became a global phenomenon, finding an underground party could be an adventure in itself.
Ravers would meet at a designated location, receive a map and directions, and follow the trail to a party whose exact destination had often remained a secret.
That meeting point was known as a map point — a small but powerful expression of the community, discovery and shared spirit at the heart of rave culture.
Now, that idea is finding a new purpose. Insomniac and Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) have announced Map Point Summit, a new global gathering designed to connect the people shaping electronic music and help build the next chapter of rave culture.
The inaugural three-day summit will take place in May 2027 at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, between the two EDC festival weekends, scheduled for May 14–16 and May 21–23.
The ambition goes beyond bringing industry professionals into the same room, Map Point Summit aims to create a space where emerging creators, independent promoters, artists, entrepreneurs and established industry leaders can exchange knowledge, build meaningful relationships and discover new opportunities.
At a time when electronic music continues to expand across markets and generations, the initiative puts the people behind the culture at the centre of the conversation.
Insomniac founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella first unveiled the project during his keynote titled “The Future of Rave Culture and Why It Needs Its Own Industry” at the 30th edition of Amsterdam Dance Event.
The session explored the evolution of live electronic music, the challenges facing independent promoters and the importance of creating a stronger business ecosystem for rave culture.
Rotella’s vision is rooted in the belief that the scene’s long-term future depends on protecting the values that shaped it in the first place. Rave culture grew through grassroots communities, independent parties and people who created experiences because they believed in the music and the connections it could inspire.
As the industry becomes increasingly global, the challenge is to create room for growth without losing that original sense of identity.
Map Point Summit programme will include industry conversations, educational sessions, creative workshops and networking opportunities, bringing together participants at different stages of their careers.
The goal is to share practical knowledge, support independent initiatives and help the next generation navigate an industry that can be as challenging as it is full of possibilities.
The partnership brings together two organisations with distinct but complementary perspectives on electronic music for more than three decades,
Insomniac has helped shape the global dance music landscape through large-scale experiences and festivals including Electric Daisy Carnival, Beyond Wonderland and Nocturnal Wonderland. ADE has built an international platform connecting artists, industry professionals, innovators and emerging talent through its festival, conference and educational programmes.
The name captures the idea behind the project: once, a map point helped ravers find their way to a party; today Map Point Summit aims to help people find their place within the culture, connect with others who share their vision and discover new directions for their work.
It is a reminder that behind the global stages, major festivals and expanding business opportunities, electronic music still depends on the people who bring its communities to life.
Further details about the programme, speakers and ticket information will be announced in the coming months. Those interested can register for updates at mappointsummit.com.
As electronic music continues to evolve, the conversation about its future becomes increasingly important. Map Point Summit is a new initiative built around that challenge: creating opportunities for the industry to grow while keeping the independent spirit and community connections that made rave culture what it is today.
